Approximately twenty-five thousand residences in southeastern Queensland found themselves lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, producing strong winds hitting over 100 km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents observed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across Queensland had been hit with substantial ice precipitation.

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28k power users in the state were experiencing outages.

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along significant areas of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.

Public health experts cautioned that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the countryside regions, particularly given the ongoing climate situation.
