The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
