One extended voyage through Australia is being halted days after the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but separated from the group for a rest. The vessel departed without her and went back later that day after the crew discovered the woman was missing.

A large-scale search operation located her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are looking into the event, together with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior mechanical issues".
